Due to the heavy concentration of high tech firms and manufacturing facilities, Greenville is quickly becoming South Carolina's leading business super center. The ICAR development project (International Center for Automotive Research) will continue this trend and may mark the beginning of a new era in South Carolina where research universities play a major role in leading innovation and business.
Clemson University has partnered with several major Fortune 500 companies in the development of the ICAR research park. The business park will cover 400 acres near I85 and Laurens road. IBM, Microsoft, BMW, Michelin, and The Timken Company have all committed to Clemson's ICAR project. Public and Private commitments to Clemson-ICAR have already topped 180 million. With commitments like these, ICAR could easily become the US's premier automotive and motor sports research and educational center.
