Greenville is the thriving cultural and entertainment center of Upstate South Carolina. In keeping with its international vibe, Greenville is a sister city to Bergamo, Italy. Our downtown won the prestigious 2003 Great American Main Street award given by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. This foundation describes Greenville’s downtown as rich with beautiful sidewalks, distinctive architecture, historic treasures and tremendous natural resources.

World-class restaurants are within a pleasant stroll of corporate offices, and the city is full of delightful public art, modern and traditional statuary, and lovely open spaces like Cleveland Park and the Reedy Falls Park. There are many entertaining events hosted by Greenville’s Downtown each year also. Four times a year, a number of the downtown streets are closed off for yearly festivals offering food and plenty of entertaining. Each Thursday evening Greenville offers “Downtown Alive” which features live music, international foods and other family friendly events. Additionally, the downtown offers the wonderful Falls Park, an excellent place to relax and enjoy the outdoors.

Highlights of the downtown include a major new arts center (the Peace Center for the Performing Arts), a 17,000 seat arena (The Bi-Lo Center, home of the Greenville Growl), a large 368,000-foot exhibition center (The Palmetto Expo Center), a nationally recognized museum, almost 40 parks, playgrounds and recreation centers, and over 500 historic sites (1) . Greenville also boasts a host of cultural and ethnic eateries, restaurants, and grocers. The downtown has at least 70 different restaurants, with food sales downtown growing by 127% in the past five years and by 15% in the past year alone (7).

Greenville SC Shopping

There are many great and diverse places to shop here in Greenville as well. The Westend Market downtown showcases 44,000 square feet of restaurants/cafés, galleries, shops, a unique antiques market, and the Warehouse Theatre (3). The Augusta Road area is a distinctive shopping district convenient to Downtown. It is within a mile of the downtown’s central business district. The greater Augusta Road Greenville SC area has a variety of high-end specialty shops, restaurants, antique shops, and a health food store. Commercial Real Estate growth in the August Road area has increased significantly recently with a new Walgreens, Carolina First Bank, and the addition of several strip malls with various shops and restaurants.

Greenville offers two large traditional shopping malls as well. Haywood Mall is the most visited of the two offering Dillards, JC Penny, Macy’s, Sears, Belk Simpson, and many more. Greenville Mall is the other Mall offering stores like Oshman’s Sporting Goods, Eddie Bauer, and Talbot’s to name a few.
